Vale – Geoff Linforth

It is with great sadness that Russell and I advise of the passing of our father, Geoffrey George Linforth, on December 2nd, 2020, aged 97. Geoff was born on February 1st, 1923 in Yarram, being the first-born son of Walter and Hilda Linforth of Welshpool, and grandson of Torus and Elise Ellefsen. He grew up on the Linforth family farm, just east of Welshpool township, with younger sisters Esther (Grylls) and Marie (Ardley). He served in New Guinea during WW2, married Ballarat lass Norma Byrne in 1946 and then took over the family dairy farm. Together they had two sons, John and Russell.Geoff was active in the community being a member at various times of the Welshpool Fire Brigade, the Corner Inlet Uniting Church, Welshpool Hall Committee, Port Welshpool Bowls Club and both the Welshpool Primary and Foster and District High School Parent Committees. He also spent time as the Grandmaster of the Toora Masonic Lodge, President of the Toora Bush Nursing Hospital and was on the executive committee of the Yarram Artificial Breeders Association.Geoff and Norma retired from farming and moved to Rosebud in 1989. He enjoyed time spent with family, lawn bowls and holidays to Queensland and Western Australia. Norma passed away in 2015 and Geoff spent his remaining years at Capel Sands Aged Care in Capel Sound. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Loved by all he will be sadly missed.
